Post-operative instructions following braces:
  • Be careful not to abuse your appliances.  DO NOT chew ice, your pencil, toothbrush, or gum.  Bent wires and damaged appliances cause your teeth to move to undesirable positions and can add to the length of your treatment.
  • DO NOT EAT:
    • sticky, hard or chewy candy
    • gum (not even sugarless)
    • hard pretzels, nuts or pizza crusts/breads
    • ice cream with hard bits
    • popcorn
    • corn on the cob
  • You may eat the following fruits and vegetables if sliced, grated or diced:
    • carrots/sticks
    • apples/sliced
    • pears/sliced
    • cooked fruits and vegetables
  • Do not chew gum of ANY kind.  It can stick in your appliances and loosen wires or ties.
  • Brush teeth daily after breakfast, after lunch, and at bedtime.
  • Use can to cover any part of the appliance that may irritate your cheeks, lips, or gums.  If any soreness persists, call our office.

Post-operative instructions following adjustment appointments:

  • For discomfort after appointments, you may take an over-the-counter pain reliever--usually Tylenol or Motrin.  Soreness is usually experienced in the beginning of treatment.
  • If you have any questions regarding your treatment, please do not hesitate to call us at 262-251-8704.
